ANTIQUE 19TH CENTURY MANDALAY BURMESE GILT ALABASTER SITTING SHAN BUDDHA MONK
Welcome to my auction - Up for your consideration is this exquisite 19th century relief carved image of a Burmese Shan Buddha done in the Mandalay style. The Buddha is sitting in the Mara Vijaya posture (calling the earth to witness) meditating on a lotus throne wrapped in a gold gilt highlighted robe. The sculpture is beautifully executed from a single block of alabaster with a calming, serene facial expression and fine detailing. The surface is relatively smooth with some chisel marks present in the small openings and on the back and bottom. It has a wonderful, naturally aged patina. The sculpture came from the estate of a well traveled military admiral and is believed to date to the 19th century, no identifying marks.

CONDITION
- The sculpture is in very fine, antique, pre-owned condition! Some normal age as expected, some wear to painted decoration, no damage noticed - well kept.
SIZE
- The sculpture stands approximately 9 3/4" tall, 8 1/4" long by 3 1/2" wide across base.
