Description

Offered for sale is an antique/vintage (1900 -1940's) carved wood portable shrine with miniature clay figures from Burma (Myanmar). The unusual style of stupa architecture with the Buddhist deity figures carved into niches is characteristic of the site at Bagan, Burma. The shrine was once painted with gold and silver gilt and some traces of it still remain. The shrine has wear and imperfections consistent with age and use - there are chips on the wood (see photos), surface wear, and one clay figure is chipped. This unique piece measures 8 1/4" high, 7" wide at the base, and 2 3/4" in depth at the base.
